How to Prepare for Your First Mobile Massage

If you've never had a mobile massage at home before, you might be wondering what to expect and whether there's anything you need to do to get ready. The honest answer is: not much. But a few small things can make a real difference to the quality of your session.

One of the biggest advantages of a mobile massage is having the treatment at home. I bring massage oils and fresh towels. Please provide a suitable bed, sofa or firm floor area with enough space to work around it; I do not bring a massage table. If you are unsure about the setup, we can discuss it before confirming your appointment.

That said, a little preparation goes a long way. Here's what I recommend to make sure your session runs smoothly and you get the maximum benefit from it.

Clear a Space Before I Arrive

I work on your bed, sofa or floor — whichever is most comfortable. Just make sure there is a bit of room around it so I can move freely. Have a think beforehand about where you'd like your bed or sofa set up and clear that space before I arrive.

Most people use their living room, bedroom or a spare room. Any of these work perfectly well. It doesn't need to be perfectly tidy — I just need enough clear floor space to set up and move around your bed or sofa comfortably.

Have a Shower Before the Session

This isn't something I'd ever raise directly, but it's worth mentioning here: having a shower before your massage is a good idea for obvious reasons. It also has the added benefit of warming up your muscles slightly, which can help you relax more easily into the treatment.

Avoid a Heavy Meal Beforehand

Try not to eat a large meal in the hour or two before your massage. Lying face down on a full stomach is uncomfortable, and the digestive process can make it harder to fully relax. A light snack is fine — just avoid anything too heavy or rich in the run-up to your appointment.

Drink Normally

Have water available if you would like a drink before or after your session. You do not need to force extra fluids because you have had a massage, and drinking water is not a proven way to prevent post-massage soreness. Follow any fluid advice given by your healthcare professional.

Tell Me What You Need

After your booking is confirmed, complete the private health consultation and consent form before treatment. The health consultation guide explains what to share, how the private form works and when treatment may need to be adapted or postponed. Before starting, we will also discuss your preferred pressure and any areas to focus on or avoid.

Tell me what feels comfortable throughout the session. You can ask for lighter pressure, skip an area or stop at any point. Firmer pressure should remain within your comfort and suitability limits.

Switch Your Phone to Silent

It sounds obvious, but it's worth saying. A buzzing or ringing phone is one of the quickest ways to break the relaxation you've built up during a massage. Put it on silent or do not disturb before the session starts so you can fully switch off for however long it runs.

Wear Something Comfortable

You'll undress to your comfort level for the massage — most people keep their underwear on. I use towels or a sheet to cover you properly throughout, only uncovering the area I'm currently working on. Everything is handled professionally and with full discretion at all times.

Wear something that's easy to take off and put back on. You don't need any special clothing — just something comfortable and practical.

Plan to Rest Afterwards

This is one of the biggest advantages of having a mobile massage at home — when it's done, you're already in the right place to rest. Try not to rush into anything demanding immediately after the session. Give your body a little time to absorb the benefits.

Some people feel temporary tenderness after deeper work, while others do not. Soreness is not proof that a treatment worked, and a massage does not need to hurt to be useful. Tell me about discomfort during or after the session. Seek medical advice for severe, unusual, persistent or worsening pain rather than assuming it is an expected effect.

Is There Anything Else I Need to Provide?

I bring massage oils and fresh towels. Please provide a suitable bed, sofa or firm floor area, plus enough clear space to work around it. A warm, private room helps you relax. For an apartment, hotel or Airbnb, explain parking, entry arrangements and any stairs when you book. Check that your hotel or host permits a visiting massage therapist and that you have a private, suitable space for the session.

If you have any other questions before your first session, just drop me a message on WhatsApp. I'm always happy to talk through anything beforehand so you feel completely comfortable when the day arrives.
